The Tyranny of Mitch McConnell…and how to stop him

November 10, 2020 by Stephen Altschuler 2 Comments

Mitch McConnell, Senate Majority Leader and senator from the great state of Kentucky is no different than many of the traitors America has had to contend with over the years. From Benedict Arnold to John Walker Jr., traitors wish to impede America from making progress in healing the world and its own wounds. McConnell showed his own traitorous teeth by opposing Barack Obama every inch of the way during his presidency, forcing Obama into issuing many Executive Orders to get anything done (with the exception of the Affordable Care Act, perhaps Obama’s greatest accomplishment, when the Senate was under Democratic control in the first two years of his term.) McConnell was quite transparent in admitting that his singular goal was to make Obama a one term president.

In an interview on the eve of the 2010 midterm elections, with the country still reeling from the Great Recession, here’s what he said about his priorities:

McConnell: We need to be honest with the public. This election is about them, not us. And we need to treat this election as the first step in retaking the government. We need to say to everyone on Election Day, “Those of you who helped make this a good day, you need to go out and help us finish the job.”
N.J.: What’s the job?
McConnell: The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.
He failed in that goal, but he did prevent Obama from achieving many of the important goals in the Democrats’ platform, essentially paving the way for Trump’s stolen election in 2016. He and other Republicans criticized Obama for his Executive Orders but made not a peep when Trump did the same to push through his extreme and reactionary orders. He joined in lock step with Trump, essentially being a Senate Majority enabler, a bobblehead standing behind Trump at every signing of an Executive Order, like any underling behind his commanding officer.

And now that Trump has lost his reelection bid in a record tidal wave of Democrat voters nationwide, McConnell parrots Trump’s efforts to reverse the outcome in an attempt to undermine the very foundations of democracy. He wants to reverse a legitimate vote with no evidence of fraud or misconduct among election officials. McConnell’s disingenuous support of Trump’s right to challenge the election via the courts and not acknowledge Biden’s definitive victory is another example of his shameless disregard for the basic tenets of the American system.

McConnell, like most of his Senate cohorts, is shameless in his support of the tyrant Trump. And as we learned from the Revolutionary War and the Civil War, tyrants will not defeat American values of fair play, equality, liberty, and the dignity and well being of each and every citizen. The Tories were sent packing by Washington and his troops. The confederates who sought the end of the union were sent home with their tails between their legs after a bitter struggle. And now Mitch McConnell with his sights on blocking the unifying agenda of Joe Biden, must also be sent packing.
But how to accomplish this has nothing to do with violence or war. It has to be accomplished through the sacred democratic means of the vote. Republicans have been trying, often successfully, to suppress the vote and make it more difficult for people of color and economic deprivation to cast their ballots. This 2020 election has shown an electorate that is fed up with these efforts. One person, in Georgia, Stacy Abrams, has demonstrated that such Republican efforts can be opposed and stopped. She contributed tremendously to Joe Biden’s win.
And Ms. Abrams continues to fight for the election of two more Democratic candidates for Senate seats in Georgia runoff elections in January. If these two Democrats win these elections, control of the Senate will revert to the Democrats and end McConnell’s domination of that august body. Biden will be in good position to right the wrongs of the Trump/McConnell regime.
I urge you to donate to the campaigns of both of these candidates, the Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff. I believe the best and most reliable way to contribute is via the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee at dscc.org. I hope you do that soon with as much a donation as you can afford. As the presidential election reclaimed the soul of this country, so these runoffs in Georgia can reclaim the soul of the United States Senate.
Thank you.

I agree with you 100% I emailed McConnell today ( probably a wast of my time ) and like you compared him to Benedict Arnold. He’s a Trump enabler and it is treason in my opinion. He, Barr and now Pompeo have permanently sullied their reputations to assist a mentally unstable wanabe tyrant.
God Bless American and God speed donations to democrats in Georgia.

Thanks very much, David. It will be tough fight in Georgia, but I think we have a chance. I’d love to see big wins for those two Democrats, both very able politicians. Your email to McConnell is not in vain. He needs to see every citizen’s opinion of him.
Be well, and many thanks for taking the time to comment.
