The Michigan Police Association recently endorsed Donald Trump for President in the ’24 election, stating that doing so will restore honor to the profession. I find this puzzling to say the least. And even Karl Rove was flummoxed by this endorsement. And you can’t get much more right wing than Karl Rove. Rove also pointed out that Trump’s intention to pardon all the Jan. 6 rioters was despicable, given the damage they did to the building and the harm they inflicted on many Capitol police personnel, some leading to severe injury and death. Trump also chose not to visit with the families of those police officers or give any of them who courageously protected legislators of all parties, who were hiding inside in fear, any awards or commendations. That, and his calling the rioters patriots does not bring honor to the police. It degrades and demoralizes police nationwide.
This leads me to suspect that police in Michigan are either ill informed about Trump’s behavior or are mostly part of the MAGA mob that continue to advance the lies and deceptions about their cult leader. If it’s the latter, I’m seriously concerned that police in general may be infiltrated by this MAGA element and will do Trump’s bidding if he attains the presidency. That, dear readers, would be tantamount to a police state, much as Hitler relied upon to do his dirty work against any number of minorities.
Trump has enhanced his power, even as a civilian, through fear and intimidation, through threats and insults directed to the judiciary and their families, and death threats lobbed at political opponents without any objection or caution by Trump. He is the de facto head of the House of Representatives and has the Speaker in his back pocket. If elected in November, we can expect more, perhaps much more, of his autocratic and even dictatorial shenanigans. He can do alot of damage with executive orders, at home and abroad, even with a politically split Congress.
But the biggest danger comes from the police, the military, and the white supremacy gangs, who are “stand down and stand by” just waiting for Trump to regain power.again as we saw from Hitler’s Germany. If they all back Trump with the threat of violence against his detractors, we’re all in big trouble, taking much “good trouble”, as John Lewis put it, to oppose and put Trump down. It will take some form of civil war.
And that is what I fear most. To stop this steamroller from gaining speed, Trump and his MAGA followers need to be defeated in this next election. Period.

Yes, I’m back after a healthy hiatus on a news fast. It was really getting to me, health-wise. I’m still cautious as to how much news I can take in, but as this election draws closer, I see the need to return to the political fray. We need all the voices we can muster to fight this battle and win this war.

And a word about Robert F. Kennedy Jr. No matter who you like or who you don’t like, all third party candidates in this country never come close to winning and are running merely out of their own ego needs. In this election, all a vote for him will do is take votes away from Joe Biden and possibly allow Trump to win (as a vote for Ralph Nader allowed Bush to win in 2000 and 2004). Please. Do not vote for RFK Jr. Vote for Biden. He’s done a good, solid job, both domestically and with foreign affairs, despite Republican obstructionism.

Welcome back Stephen. I trust writing the above helps you cope with the insanity around us these days. It’s (somewhat) calming to read others who share my views and concerns.
Thanks,
Chris C.

Thanks very much, Chris. It really does help me cope. I just have to be careful I don’t go overboard like I did a few months ago. Moderation, as they say. Happy to be a calming influence.
Take care.

Stephen
So glad your are back writing. You hit it down the middle with a slight draw to the left.
If you get me drift.
I too have been curbing my news intake. I am hopeful truth will prevail.
Look forward to you next post on the masters.
David

Thanks very much, David. Yep, I sure do get your drift, and I’ll try to keep that political ball in play. As for the Masters, I’m working on a post and should have that out some time early next week.
Should be fun to watch, as always (except for all the LIV players, and all…)
All best, Stephen
