For my Irish brothers and sisters who are in deep grief over the murder of their beautiful native daughter Ashling Murphy:
Requiem for Ashling Murphy
by Stephen Altschuler
I hope to see Ashling in heaven
to hear her play and to sing
I hope to see Ashling in heaven and be
Soothed as the bells of the angels do ring.
My soul it does grieve for Ashling
And my eyes they do sadden and cry
But I know she’ll be back with her smile intact
In the wake of an Irish lullaby.
Oh play us a tune Aoife Ashling
As you taught us to live our lives full
You will live in our dreams as a bird on the wing
As a shawl made with soft winter wool.
The angels all sing Hallelujah
As you play your fiddle and dance
They radiate love from around and above
Putting me in a transcendent trance.
